You are invited to a hybrid event at Rowan-Virtua SOM on February 23 at 5:30pm. Listen to Black Mamas is a film regarding the maternal mortality crisis in New Jersey. A collaboration with National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Southern New Jersey Chapter and Planned Parenthood of Northern, Central and Southern New Jersey, the film explores how the joy of pregnancy can, too often, become a nightmare for Black women. Dr. Thomas Cavalieri, inaugural Senior Vice Provost Virtua Health College of Medicine and Life Sciences and Chief Academic Officer, Virtua Health will be providing the welcome. Panel discussion on the maternal mortality crisis in New Jersey will follow, featuring:
• Crystal D. Charley, MBA, CD, reproductive justice and civil rights activist, a patient advocate for Black maternal health, and the founder of Melanin and Maternal Wellness
• Tanjika and Christyn Scurry, sisters of Saish Matthews, a maternal mortality victim
• Dr. Michelle Tartaglia, Assistant Dean of Clinical Education, Rowan-Virtua SOM
• Ambrial Ugoji, licensed social worker, certified labor doula, and the Project Director of Camden Healthy Start
