RCHGHR Webinar
Please join us for our first event of the spring's RCHGHR Lecture Series on Thursday, 4 February 2021 at 12:30pm. The Rowan Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights invites you to our discussion with two social justice advocates at Amnesty International USA.
Ernest Coverson is the End Gun Violence Campaign Manager for AIUSA, working to eradicate all forms of gun violence plaguing the USA especially in Black and Brown Communities. He previously worked at the NAACP and has over 20 years of experience in community empowerment work. Denise Bell is the Researcher for Refugee and Migrant Rights at AIUSA. She previously worked at the US Department of Justice and served as an attorney advisor for New York's Immigration Court.
Together, they will be discussing Amnesty International's August 2020 report, "USA: The World is Watching – Mass Violations by U.S. Police of Black Lives Matter Protesters’ Rights." This report looks at protest in the aftermath of George Floyd's death in May 2020, particularly highlighting the shocking failure to limit the use of force by law enforcement to situations where it is necessary and proportionate to an actual threat. The discussion will also look at the aftermath of this report in light of the riots at the Capitol on 6 January 2021.
