Talk: "Antisemitism and the Return of Fascism," Wed 12/09

Please join us as Critical Junctures, an International Studies lecture series, presents: "Antisemitism and the Return of Fascism," an invited talk by Dr. Richard Steigmann-Gall of Kent State University.  As far-right populist movements sweep across the West in opposition to liberal democracy and globalization, both the US and European societies have witnessed an uptick in antisemitism, xenophobic policies, and the growth of paramilitary organizations like the Proud Boys.   With charismatic leaders consolidating political power and armed supporters openly marching in the streets, observers are asking if we are witnessing the rise of a new type of fascism in the twenty-first century.  Dr. Steigmann-Gall, an historian of fascist politics in Germany and the US, will explore the meanings of fascism as an historical phenomenon in the US, define its most essential characteristics, and assess the debate as to whether fascism has returned.

This talk will occur on Wednesday, December 9th at 5pm via Webex, with a question and answer session to follow.  Please register at shrader@rowan.edu to attend.

This event is co-sponsored by International Studies, the Rowan Center for the Study of Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights and Funded by a UISFL Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
